Has anybody noticed with on the Dog Section of Answers, there is an advertisement for Purina, saying it meets or exceeds standards of AAFCO?

If I could make a list of bad dog foods, it would be one of the top ones. I really think there should be a change in commercial dog food. Its so low quality…

They no doubt pay well to advertise here. It’s highly unlikely they will say “you may as well feed table scraps as feed this.” They want you to buy it.

I never check out the adds anyway.

Sam’s Club has actually put out something new that is even worse; Member’s Mark Complete Nutrition; my hubby brought a sample home and I told him if he fed it to my dogs I would hurt him. BADLY.
Ingredients:
Ground yellow corn, meat and bone meal, soybean meal, chicken by-product meal, (that means beaks feet and feathers, folks) wheat middlings, animal fat, BHA,natural flavor, brewer’s rice, salt…and it gets worse!
The bag states: If your dog likes Dog Chow, TRY THIS.
Guess it would kill them faster (?)
People need to learn to read the ingredient panel, but I know I am preaching to the choir here with all you good clever folks.
Honestly Dog Chow is probably better than this crap…
Beneful is WAY down there too IMO…

yup I agree about Purina being low quality.. a while ago here I saw an add for Eukanuba.. another low qualtiy food (although perhaps not as bad as Purina)

sadly its becuase AAFCO has LOW standards…

one food I reccomend (in Canada) is NUTRAM there food is of such high standards they export to such places as Japan - where the pet food standards are MUCH higher…

rule of thumb - if you see lots of advertisements for a food you can be sure its low quality - they are PAYING for ads.. not for quality ingredients.
