can you still make money off of advertising if you create your web site through a sight like 50 meg?

With things like yahoo advertising and google advertising, they base their payments on the amount of visitors. With 50 meg, the free package put their own ads on your site, but with the other packages they don’t. However, if you choose the free package, you should be able to put other sources of advertising on along with what 50 meg will put there. If you choose one of the other packages, you should be able to put whatever you can on the site.
