I’m just wondering whether it’s better to contact a temp agency via email or calling. The reason I ask is that I’ve been emailing the recruiter once a week, but I see positions advertised by her firm on a job board that sound exactly like what I’m looking for. Am I somehow not proving my worth by just emailing her?

Horaayy..there are 9 comment(s) for me so far ;)
Do both and tell them that you are interested in the _______ position that have, and why were you not referred.
Sometime you can put more information in an E-Mail because you have more time to edit.
Have you actually gone in and signed up with the agency? That’s the first step - then call them - don’t email them if you see a position you like
Is this a local agency? I would go in person if you can. A phone call is better than email if you see something posted you are really interested in. I never found temp agencies to be very helpful. I’ve applied for jobs on Monster.com or via the local paper directly and had better luck.
Hope you find your dream job soon!
e-mail can be too informal. if anything, go to the office and make an impression! they are looking for motivated individuals just like any other company, because they do not want a slacker that will just show up to a job, and ruin their reputation. call them and set up an appointment to meet with them.
No..the answer is simple. You may not qualify like you think you do. Or…the position is filled and they are not looking anymore. The job may still be posted because they havent updated there site. Yes its a good idea to walk in and introduce yourself. No its not a good idea to keep bugging your recruiter for the same job.
Correct. Emailing them has very little success. They want to see you before they send you out on jobs. Call & find out the hours when they accept applications. Go in dressed as you would if you were going to that job. Bring resume & i.d.
Those jobs they advertise are usually already filled or maybe never really existed - but they do have jobs.
Hint - When they first send you out, it will be to a crappy little job that isn’t what you applied for. They want to see if you will do it & how you perform. Often it’s a half-day job or something silly. Do it. Then you get placed in the good jobs.
Hint #2 - call them daily after you have applied. They don’t necessarily go all thru their applicants & carefully match up person with job. If you happen to call when they just got a new job to fill, they’ll give it to you - saves them time & effort. So call daily.
Hint #3 - apply with more than 1 agency, and it’s fine to tell them that when they ask (which they will). That way you increase you chances.
The temp agencies has hurt this countrys job market they want the companies to pay you 7 or 8 an hr then the company pays them 3 or 4 dollars an hour for your work when they could pay you an if you go through a temp you have no insurance no benfits at all i say outlaw them an go back an make some of these sorry *** companies pay you for what you are worth.
Unfortunately most temp. agencies post ads in the newspaper every week to generate resumes. They are not real jobs, just bait to get them candidates.
Call your recruiter and ask them why you are not being considered for the job advertised. I bet they come up with an excuse like “Oh, the client wants someone with more years of experience than you.” or “Oh, that job doesn’t pay as much as you are asking for.” Calling in is better than e-mailing them. You should also continue to search for jobs on your own in addition to using an agency.
The temp agencies I’ve worked with usually ignore you either way. They don’t answer e-mail, you call in and get their voice mail, calls are not returned, and if they do call you chances are at least part of what they are saying is a LIE.
