All my settings are in American English, i usually send English emails, and the ads displayed are usually in english. I was looking at my sent folder and re-read the French email, then noticed the ads on that page were also french. how did the ads know to advertise in french? were they reading my email?

Google’s ads scan the page for keywords and show adverts related to those words. So in a way, yes, Google is reading your email, but its a bot, not a human.

Gmail analyzes the body of almost all emails to give you content directly related to it. It so called smart-advertising but yes in a sense they are reading your email or more specifically a script is.

I would say yes, they are reading your email. I have a friend that models in France and her father lives there now. She says most ppl there can read and speak English as well as French. Good luck!
