How can I turn off or avoid animated advertising headers because they interfere with my getting my e-mail?

When I try to open my e-mail, animated advertising messages do not allow me access to my email without an annoying delay.
Can I avoid that or eliminate it?

Click Start > Control Panel > Internet Options (or Tools Internet Options) > Advanced tab > scroll down to Multimedia and un-check Play animations in web pages > click Apply and OK > restart Internet Explorer.
