How did it happen that there was advertising mail in my mailbox addressed to me before I moved in?

I had notified no business or person of my upcoming new address …..that I know of.

If you put a change of address in at your old address, your mail (all kinds) will immediately follow you wherever you moved. You can go to the post office and tell them that you don’t wish to recieve certain kinds of mail and they can stop it for you.
