How do colleges and universities market to incoming (registered) freshmen and returning students over the course of the summer, i.e., at their non-campus addresses?
> Direct mail: What kinds of things are sent? Fornats (e.g. packages, letters or postcards) and contents/key messages (e.g., be sure to come to orientation…here’s your Campus Orientation Kit, etc.
> Email: What kinds of message are sent? Links provided to the college web site for additional detail? Is school email account used or student’s personal email account?
> Have you ever seen schools include advertising for local businesses (e.g., Bed & Bath, Pizza Hut) in any of their materials or in orientation handouts?

If you provide examples, please mention name of school. Thanks so much.

my sis gets email that tell her about new courses being offered and trips and stuff like that but they never had ads in them and also since the Virginia Tech tragedy they have her cell # so they can text her if anything bad happens on or by their campus
