How do I REMOVE advertising bar to right of yahoo mailbox?

The columns on my email are too thin when I open the mailbox so I want expanded size when I first click to open it up.

under your options,
with your mail opened go to top right where it says Options…then go to General Preferences..where it says Messages…
change the Width to the maximum of 72 characters one the first one and 55 on the second one…then go to bottom of screen and save the changes

Is your Yahoo account one of the free ones? If so, having ads on the page is the price you pay for using their free service.
However, “geekie” has given good advice about adjusting the settings.
