Spam is basically advertisements that show up in my in-box without my having asked for them… so unless you can figure out a way to get the people to request them, they are pretty much spam.

why dont you buy the customers through a list company who sells names and addresses for so and so per name. Make sure you pay for the ones that have emails only.

If it is unsolicited email, then it is Spam.

I’d recommend finding partners, that will send out an introduction for you. Like computer dealers, people with blogs, etc..

Then have a method on your website to collect email addresses, to create a subscription list, and send these people great information on a regular basis. (Along with promoting your services.)

Send your e-mails only to your personal friends and to those who have voluntarily accepted to receive your newsletters.

There are a number of methods for growing your list without spamming.

1. On your web site, have a data collection tool. That is, invite people to sign up to receive your hints, tid bits or newsletter.

2, In your newsletter be sure to highlight and provide incentives for the subscriber to “forward to a friend.” In some narrow (vertical) markets, that may be the only way you will find more of your prospects. It’s called “Viral Marketing.”

3. Join a club or association (not a huge national one like the American Bar Association, but a local chapter of a professional association) and invite the members to visit your web site and sign up to receive your info. (You have to give them an incentive…a member discount or something.)

4. On a one time basis, you might get away with sending an email blast to the members, but it must be personalized and only invite them to come to your web site to sign up to receive more info. You can’t assume you have permission to send them emails just because their email address appears in the membership directory.

DON’T: Buy a list of any sort for any reason. It’s spam and won’t work anyway.

How’s that for starters?
