I live in Miami and I’ve sent a lot of resumes and I’ve called the agencies to send in my resume and they always tell me to email it. I never get an answer. I don’t know where else to look for an Advertising job. I don’t have any experience (except for a 6 month internship at a bad ad agency) but I really want to start my career. I don’t know what the next step should be….

I don’t know if there’s something wrong with my resume or cover letter.

if you really really want to get a job in the ad. gigs. you should find a few agencies that you think does a good job, and get to know the people that are working there, you really have to put yourself out there, and dont ever mention anything about the previous ad company since you thought it is bad. also try to work for the small companies to start with like pennysaver, or some local newpaper company, as you get more experience ppl will notice and will refer others to you. also there are so many kind of adverising company, tv, new, mag, and web. so you have to have some kind of specialty, just looking pretty wont cut it, unless you want to go door to door, and sell “yourself” …. you know what i meant. so gear yourself, and make sure you have at least some affiliates with you to work with, its all about referrals.

Has anyone proofread both your cover letter and resume?
That’s #1. Grammatical errors will disqualify you immediately.

#2 What is your job objective as stated on the resume? You want to start out in an agency, but what do you want to do? Do you want to be in production? An Account Executive? A Copywriter?

You could go to various employment agencies with your resume. They might be able to place you - and it won’t cost you anything since they are paid by the employer.
