I’m a young female, interviewing tomorrow for an entry level marketing/advertising position, and I know the basics of interview dressing:

no heavy perfume
no stiletto heels
no cleavage

all those are obvious, but what do i wear for this type of position.. I’m getting mixed reviews
Should it be professional pants & button down shirt?
a 2 piece suit? pants? skirt?
Is a colored blouse okay?
simple jewelry?

help!

My first thought was to go with (professional) Black pants and a button down shirt & heels. Good Luck!

Definitely wear a suit - but because you are applying for marketing/advertising you can add some flair. Do a little research on the company, is it a large ad firm with many offices? If so, add a bright shirt or a funky necklace. Don’t wear anything jingly-jangly or distracting. If it’s a smaller more boutique business then you should definitely consider a bright jacket over a black skirt or trousers. Something more Carrie than Miranda if you get my drift. Remember that you want the clothes to compliment you - not outshine you. But since it’s a creative industry you have more options than if you were to interview at a bank or law firm.
