If they have a phone number posted, and is it bad to send your resume w/o having a prior appointment? I just read in some Get a Job book about how it’s presumptous to email your resume! WHat?! How else are they supposed to know who you are etc….

Most online job ads do want you to send your resume online….I agree it’s better to contact them personally, but most of the time it lists the company as “confidential”, so you have no idea who it’s for. It’s not presumptuous to email your resume if you’re asked for 1.
It can’t hurt to call, give them an overview of your abilities and find out more about the position and then send the resume. Anytime a job is posted online it gets more responses than the hiring mgr knows what to do with, the phone call will make you stand out.
If they put a phone number it is ok to call them. E-mail your resume and after a day check with them if they received and if everything is fine. The most important thing is to show real interest for the job. It is a competition, wins the one using all the weapons he has ( e-mail, phone call, follow up e-mail etc..)
