I was in the middle of checking my email when I saw an advertisement for DirectBuy in the ad area on the right side. DirectBuy is a known problem company that uses high pressure and scare techniques to force potential customers to sign a contract with them, agreeing to pay several thousand dollars for a membership that is worthless. Why would such a great company like Yahoo! do that?

Because it is e-mail, your terms of agreement limits their liability. All search engine companies operate the same. Caveat emptor (buyer beware).

Not everyone thinks that DirectBuy is a scam. It can be a good deal for certain people - probably a very few people, in my opinion. I’m sure that Yahoo needs the revenue from the ads.
